National STUDENT-Athlete Day
Monday, 06 April 2009 09:18
Today is National STUDENT-Athlete Day, which has been celebrated every year on April 6 since 1987.

For over 20 years National STUDENT-Athlete Day has recognized the outstanding accomplishments of high school and college student-athletes.  In order to be considered, student-athletes must perform well both in the classroom and in sports, and also contribute to their schools and communities.

This event was created by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS).  Each year on April 6 the National Giant Steps Award Winners are announced.

In conjunction with National STUDENT-Athlete Day the NCAS awards National Giant Steps Awards honoring individuals who exemplify the meaning of the day by using sport as a vehicle for positive social change, bring awareness to social issues, and who help student-athletes have a balance between academics and sports. Nominees are made in the categories of Civic Leaders, Parents, Teachers, Courageous Student-Athletes, Coaches and more.

Check out their website to see more about NCAS and the National Giant Steps Awards.  We’re looking forward to seeing who the winners will be this year!
